FUN HKU TINGS
Brandon Lee
It’s the time of the year. Just when we want to recover from all the grueling midterms, we realize the final season is creeping up on us. The concept of fun just seems so remote and even invisible. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Here are some fun things that you can do during your study sessions to make the concept of fun reappear in your life.
First let’s talk about social media. There is HKU’s Instagram page @hkuniversity, but who cares, that’s no fun! Here is some HKU related social media pages I found that might brighten up your day a little bit:
1. @hku_confessions
Universities all have their own confession page, but from what I have seen, HKU’s confession page might be the spiciest one. There are complains, questions, confessions, and of course, our favorite, the seemingly unbelievable stories about sex on this page. Also, there are a few confessions on this page dedicated to find out who the person you were eying in Chi Wah, so if you have the same struggle, here is your chance!
2. @hku.sexed
Sex is a big part of university students’ life. However, there are lots of misconceptions or questions regarding sex we are too reluctant to ask. Well, if that is you, this account is what you need. @hku.sexed welcomes your questions or concerns regarding sex, and will answer them. Of course, you will be submitting your questions anonymously, so you don’t have to worry about your privacy.
3. Meme pages (@memehku, @hkufbelife)
What better ways are there to entertain yourself with some nice, relatable memes. These meme pages have student relatable memes that can definitely give you a few laughs while you’re studying. Those two HKU memes are probably the biggest English meme pages, but if there are other HKU meme pages that you know, please write them down in the comment section!
What if you’re not really on social media but still want to have fun? Don’t worry, we also found some special places you can go to on campus that can give you a break from all the studying.
1. Music library + rooftop
This place is my personal favorite. If you go to the top floor of the Run Run Shaw Tower where music department is, you can find the music department. What’s also there is a music library, which arguably is the best place to study on campus due to its amazing view, and the outdoor rooftop. From here, you can see the beautiful view of the Hong Kong Island, the ocean, and even Kowloon when the weather is nice. One friendly reminder is to keep the door open when you go outside for the rooftop. I once accidentally closed the door when I went out and had to ask a professor to open the door for me from inside. And yes, the professor was not too happy with me.
2. CPD Classrooms
Classrooms? Aren’t classrooms supposed to be for classes? Yes, you’re not wrong, but they can used for things for fun. Classrooms can all be booked online, and while you are in the classroom, you can do whatever you want. You can chat with your friends, watch movies, or even bring your Nintendo Switch for a MarioKart tournament on big screen. Especially during the midst of a pandemic, if you’re too reluctant to go out for a movie date, booking and coming to CPD classrooms might not be a bad idea for a movie date!
3. Music Practice Rooms
If you’re a young, talented, aspiring musician, you’re in for a treat. There are multiple music practice rooms on campus that you can book online. There’re table, couch, pianos inside these rooms, so it’s a perfect place for musicians to come to express their inner Mozart. Also, these rooms are soundproof, so you don’t have to worry if you’re planning to be loud or need a quiet place for recording a song.
Exam season is tiring. However, as important academics and getting that 4.0 GPA is, we all believe that relaxing and having fun is important. We hope this article helped your exam season out a little bit! Work hard, and don’t forget to play hard as well!
